Fantastic Vacation – Part Uno

Now that I’ve had a week to re-adjust to normal life, I thought I’d blog about my trip to Cozumel.  Red and I had such a fantastic time….definitely one of the best vacations ever!

We got to our hotel Monday around 11am and had lots of time to kill before we could check in (at 4pm).  So we changed into our swimsuits and hit the little hotel beach and checked out two of the infinity pools.  The first one was deserted, so we moved to the other one, where Louis, aka Okie Dokie, the bartender at the swimup pool kept our glasses full.  Red has been tanning since February, so she was soaking up all the sun she could get.  Me, on the other hand, took many opportunities to go sit in the water at the pool bar in the shade and make friends with the bartender.

Cozumel 005

A little before 4pm, we headed up to the lobby to see if our room was ready.  After waiting another 45 minutes, they gave us our room keys and sent us off on a wild goose chase to find our room.  We finally found it, no thanks to the directions they gave us, and waited for the bellboy to arrive with our luggage.

The rooms were really nice with marble floors counters, a nice glass shower, and a glass balcony that overlooked the main pool and the ocean where the cruise ships pulled in most days.  After showers and a quick nap, we headed down to the buffet for dinner.  We’d decided we’d just hang out at the hotel that first day.

Tuesday we got up, had breakfast, and then got a cab to downtown to do some shopping and see the city a little.  We were hoping to rent a car to drive around to the other side of the island one day, and we had been comparing prices.  Ended up getting a great deal on renting a new-ish (2004) Jeep for Wednesday.  We’d been told as much as $110 but ended up getting ours for $60, including insurance and them dropping the jeep off and picking it back up at our hotel.

But back to Tuesday…we wandered around downtown for awhile, wasted our time trying to barter with people who were asking insane prices for their sterling jewelry, sampled some tequila at a tequila shop.  I had been hoping to find more coffee tequila to bring home with me and this shop had it….but because it was in a special handmade bottle, it was more than I wanted to pay.  So figured I’d keep looking and find some elsewhere.  Never did find anymore so now I’m wishing I had just gone ahead and bought it.  Oh well.

After walking around in the sun for awhile, Red and I were both ready to find a shady spot and a drink.  One of the places we passed handed us coupons for 4 margaritas and an order or nachos for $15, so we headed there.  It was an upstairs, open air bar that looked out over the ocean.  So we sat there, enjoyed the breeze, the view, the drinks, and the nachos for awhile.

It wasn’t long before one of the bartenders asked us where we were from.  We told him Texas and he said, “Dallas, right?”  We were both surprised that he guessed that and asked him why.  He said we looked like party girls.  Oh boy.  With that, he brought us over what he called “Bumper Shots.”  Not knowing what they were, but being up for it, he went to Red first.  Stood in front of her, blew a whistle, slammed the shot glass on the table 3 times, and then proceeded to pour it into her mouth and then grabbing her head and immediately shaking it around in circles before jerking it forward and backwards towards his crotch.  I’m cracking up and taking pictures, of course.  Then he annuonces it is my turn.  Oops.

Another waiter came over not long after with another round of these.  He was much more, um, suggestive with his routine, standing straddled over our laps while pouring.  By then, we were having too much fun to care!

After our margaritas and 3 shots each, we decided to go walk around some more.  Red found souvenirs for her hubby and son, we tried a few more jewelery stores, everyone still way too high on their prices (apparently this is a ploy they use when the cruise ships are in for the day).  Then we grabbed a cab and headed back to the hotel.  We got back just before 3pm, in time to make reservations at one of the hotel’s speciality restaurants for dinner.  Went back to our room, showered and napped a little then headed down to dinner around 6pm.  We were planning to go out downtown that night.

After dinner, we got a cab and went to Senor Frogs.  Boy was that a disappointment.  The place was EMPTY.  There were maybe 5 other people there.  We had a few drinks, some shots, and then ended up heading back to the hotel because their drinks were too expensive.  By the time we got back to the hotel, Red was ready to go to the room for the night but I talked her into one more drink at the sports bar (all-inclusive, so free drinks).  The next day, Wednesday, our Jeep was supposed to be at the hotel by 9:30am.  So after that, we headed to the room.  I think we were in bed by no later than 11pm the entire time we were there!

More later…

Ready to soak up some rays…and some rum!

Tomorrow is the big day!  I have to leave here at a ridiculously profanely early hour to head to the airport.  I can’t believe we have to be there THREE hours early for an international flight.  That’s just crazy.  Hopefully I can get a good nap in on our 2.5 hour flight to Cozumel.  I’m still debating whether or not I should try and get 4 hours of sleep between now and leaving for the airport.   I’m seriously afraid of sleeping through my alarm.

I’m about 90% packed at this point, certain that I have more clothes than I’ll need, and yet still worrying that I’m forgetting something.  I always do.  I’ve got my cameras, my chargers, sunscreen, sunglasses, swimsuits, hats, sandals, books, some cash, a toothbrush and clean underwear.  That’s the necessities, right?

As an added boost of excitement, I got to watch my Stars win game 2 tonight against San Jose.  I was thrilled that they made it out of the first round of the playoffs for the first time in YEARS.  And even more ecstatic that they managed to win not one, but BOTH of the first two games (on the road) to kick-start round 2.  We won’t get to see games 3 and 4 that will be played here in Dallas…unless someone knows of a place in Cozumel that will be showing the game.  😛  But I’m feeling better about that knowing that, at least the series won’t be over before we get back…well, unless the Stars make a clean sweep of it, but I’m not holding my breath for that.

Anyway, I have no idea what kind of internet access there will be at the resort we’re staying at.  I’ve seen no mention of it being in the rooms, so not even going to bother with bringing my laptop.  There’s supposedly an internet kiosk, but who knows what that will cost.  So, with only my blackberry to keep me semi-connected (email and mobile web only….everything else is waaaaay expensive….glad I checked that out before I leave), I won’t have any way to give updates on my trip.   Well, I can send updates on twitter.  That’s something.  I haven’t figured out how to post email blogs here yet.  But I’ll be sure to blog all about our adventures in Cozumel when I get home.

Have a great week! I know I will.

Two days!

I really need to get serious about packing.  I’ve got most of my clothes that I think I’ll be bringing with me piled up and ready to load in the suitcase, but I haven’t really put much thought into making sure I have matching outfits and shoes.  I’ve just thrown all of the super lightweight, cotton, comfortable stuff I own into a pile.

I finally found some comfy shorts I can live with.  The best part is, they were between $5 and $10 at Walmart!  If they last through my trip, they will have been worth the money.  :-)

1 of the 3

I’m also thrilled that the swimsuit I ordered back at the beginning of March and have been on a waitlist for finally arrived TODAY.  And it fits and its cute.  So now I have 3 suits to take with me, two of them I can mix and match.  Yeah, I went the route of the skirted suit, but these aren’t grandma-looking and are not swimdresses.  Two of them have a cute straight leg mini-skirt and flattering tops that show just the right amount.  The third one has a cute blousson type top (but not overly so) with a regular swimsuit bottom that I can swap out with one of the skirts if I’m feeling thigh-shy.  When I stop and think about it, I am such a dork…I haven’t worn a swimsuit in ten years and now, I’ll be on vacation for 5 days (4 really since we come home early on the 5th day).  Do I really need three swimsuits for that??  😛

Tomorrow I need to get up and head to Target to return a few things, then I’m going to DSW to use my reward check to find some cute sandals.  I have plenty of sandals, but am specifically looking for a slightly dressy but casual and comfy shoe to take with me as a night time shoe for when we go out.  Then it’s the gym and tanning again.  I actually have the tiniest bit of color now, but considering how white I was to begin with, that isn’t saying much!

I think I’ve gotten over the fat me vs slim Red and am now in the state of mind of IT’S MY VACATION and I’m not going to let my insecurities get in the way!  Nothing else I can do about it at this point, so might as well just HAVE FUN!  And I plan on doing plenty of that.

I’m anxious to see if the hotel is as nice as it looks in the pictures online.

So much to do, so little time!

A week from tomorrow, I leave for my much-needed, well-deserved vacation to Cozumel.  It was supposed to be a girls’ trip, but everyone but me and Red wimped out.  Apparently everyone else is afraid to go with us because we are just “party party party.”  Whatever.

Red and V went to Los Cabos last year (I couldn’t go because they accidentally scheduled it on top of a work conference I had to attend).  Red and V had never really hung out or spent time together one on one, so they got to know each other a little better I suppose.  V is very laid-back most of the time, and was looking forward to carefree days, lounging by the pool or on the beach.  Red, who had been through some rough stuff with her husband recently, was in full let-her-hair-down-and-live-it-up mode.  So needless to say, there were some conflicts.  Nothing major, and they both had fun, but I guess some residual comments have been made.

Either way, Red and I are going to have a blast.  I just know it!  I’m all for lounging with a book and a pina colada on the beach, sight-seeing, and nights out partying.  We’ve got 5 days, so time for a little of everything.  And since Red and I DO hang out and DO know each other pretty damned well, I don’t think we’ll have any problems telling the other one when we’ve had enough of something.

The downside, Red is about 5 foot 4 inches tall, with a great figure.  Me, I’m 5 foot 7, and a good 70 pounds heavier right now…the heaviest I’ve ever been in my life.  We’re going to look like Mutt & Jeff.  I didn’t get nearly as serious about going to the gym these past two months as I’d planned, so haven’t made much progress there.  But at least for the past two weeks, a fire was lit under my proverbial ass, and I’ve been hitting the gym pretty hard on the weekends at least.  During the week, I just can’t make myself get up early enough to go before work.  And after work, I’m just drained.  Excuses, I realize, but it just ain’t happening.

I started fake-baking last weekend, in the attempt to get some kind of base color on my lily white self, otherwise I’m likely to burst into flames at the beach!   I’m not tan by any means, but I have at least gotten a tiny bit of color…and still have the rest of this week to work on that and keep going to the gym.  I won’t be a bronzed goddess in any way, shape, or form, but I figure there’s nothing like the last minute panic to do as much improvement as I can.  :)

I’m doing laundry and (re)assessing my wardrobe options.  I’ve been shopping like a fiend lately, mostly trying to find some shorts that I like.  Yeah, the shorts I own don’t fit right now.  Did I mention that part about being the heaviest I’ve ever been?  Ugh.  Depression does as much damage outwardly as it does inwardly.  But yeah, I think I’ve got most of my clothing together.  Just need to do more planning of outfits to figure out what goes with what and, of course, to make sure I have enough day/night outfits, shoes, etc.  I figure later this week I’ll actually attempt to start loading the suitcase.

And with that, time to get up and get some stuff done around the house before I head to the gym and to tan.

Happy Sunday!

Life’s a beach.

I haven’t worn a swimsuit in public in almost 10 years. I’m in the worst shape of my life right now. I haven’t been to the gym in over two months. And what do I do??

I go and book a trip to Cozumel with the girl(s).

Two months to do some damage control. My gym membership has 4 days a week that I can go. I better just make sure I’m there every single one of those 4 days between now and the end of April. Today was my first day back in the gym and I did ok considering. Still got 45 minutes of cardio, kept my heart rate up above 150, and did upper body resistance workout. Tomorrow, more of the same except I’ll do lower.

I think I can…I think I can….

Could we please have some rain?

It is so dry and so hot here right now.  My water smells and tastes like dirt and is literally undrinkable.  I can’t even make coffee with it.  Yuck.    I just went outside to get the mail and I swear, it must be close to 100 degrees still!  The news cut-in just confirmed it’s 97 degrees out.  Ugh.

I went out for a smoke break at work this afternoon and didn’t take two puffs before I had to go back in.  The heat is hurting my lungs.   It’s completely miserable.

I found out why my boss wanted me to keep the first week of November blocked off on my calendar.  Turns out he is sending me to Orlando for 4 days for a learning conference, with topics ranging from developing online content to LMS systems to global learning and a lot more.  He’s going, too, so as soon as the publish the schedule of sessions, we’ll have to figure out who is going to what and that sort of thing.  I’m kind of excited…I’ve never had to travel out of state for work before.

Since this will be after the big 8.9 upgrade, I may tack some travel days on before or after the conference for a little R&R while I’m there.  Not sure how exciting DisneyWorld will be by myself, but I’m willing to find out for the right price.  I need to figure that out soon because I have to get with my other boss to book travel and hotel.  Apparently the hotel tends to fill up fast for this thing.  And I have no idea how my company handles this type of expense.  Hopefully it’s not a reimbursement thing…surely not!

My parents are on an Alaskan cruise this week.  I’m still in shock that they actually did it, along with my mom’s brother, sister, and their spouses.  I hope they are having a blast and taking lots of pictures!

What a way to start my vacation!

The shuttle was picking me up between 8:20 and 8:40 this morning to take me to the airport.  So I set 2 alarms on my phone for 7:30.  Then stayed up way late  trying to make sure I had everything.  Got my suitcase and bag loaded up and at the front door.  Clothes laid out to wear on the plane.  Made sure I had my battery charger for my camera and phone.  Loaded up my film camera and flash and stuff.  Then finally crashed around 4am.

I got woken up by my home phone ringing at 8:30am.  It was Super Shuttle calling to tell me they were outside.  ACK!!!!  PANIC!!!  Run around like a crazy person, throwing on clothes, grabbing house keys, etc.  Somehow I was out the door within about 5-10 minutes.  I didn’t even brush my teeth or my hair.  😛

On the way to the airport (I was the only passenger…dammit, I could’ve slowed down my mad rush a bit if I’d known that) I realized I’d forgotten to grab my glasses out of my car.  I don’t need them much, but would’ve been nice to have them for the games this weekend.  Oh well.

I get to the airport and check in for my 10:50 flight to San Antonio and find that an earlier flight had been cancelled, so they are pretty sure this one will be full and I won’t make it on (flying standby essentially on one of Red Baron’s passes).  As this is a new experience for me, I’m a little panicked about what to do if I don’t make it on that flight.  I was supposed to fly there then change planes for San Diego (stupid Wright Amendment).

I figure I won’t panic yet and will just wait and see what happens.  If I miss the flight, I’ll go find some nice Southwest employee to help me.  When they get ready to start loading, they announce that they are guaranteeing ALL people from the cancelled flight will be boarded.  I’m thinking this doesn’t sound good for me.  But in the end, I make it onto the plane at the last minute and am on my way.

I find a seat next to two older (40s maybe) ladies who seem to be having a good ol’ time.  Apparently one or both are school teachers and/or a principal.  Their conversations were amusing (and also scary considering they are educators of some sort).  At one point, I shit you not, the lady by the window tells the other she just doesn’t get the whole tsunami thing, “Why couldn’t they just swim with it?”

I was completely dumbfounded.  Then she starts talking about not liking Iranians or something.  The other lady was like, “yeah, probably not something you should be saying on a plane.  There might be one sitting near us.”

Finally they put in a dvd on their laptop and I didn’t have to hear anymore insanity.

The flight from San Antonio to San Diego was much easier.  I show up to check in and they immediately give me a boarding pass.  Yes, I’m definitely on the next flight, so I call my brother in San Diego to let him know so he’ll know when to pick me up.

Got here around 5pm Dallas time and hung out with my sis-in-law for a bit.  Dilbert had to go back into the office for a 4pm (6pm CT) meeting.  In about an hour, we’re going to dinner.  Good thing, too.  I’m starving and have had nothing more than airplane snacks and coffee today.

P.S.  I ended up bringing 3 pairs of shoes.  And wish I’d have grabbed my black boots as well.  It’s freaking cold and I have 2 pair of sandals.  Brilliant.

I hate packing.

I dropped my dog off at the PetsHotel earlier.  That was an adventure.  She is sooo not good around other dogs.  And of course, there’s about a dozen dogs hanging around with their owners, either being picked up or dropped off, when I show up.  They finally came and got Mazzy and took her back to her “room” while I waited to fill out the paperwork.  I feel like such a bad mother.  They marked her as “aggressive towards other animals.”  She hasn’t been “socialized.”  Her only canine friend was a horny little pekinese my parents rescued off the side of the road.  He thought he was her boyfriend.  It was cute (mostly because he couldn’t reach her no matter how hard he tried…lol).

Anyway.  She’ll have individual play time and a treat each day.  That sounds like a bad thing, but I know it’ll be good for her.  It better be.  It’s costing me more to board her for a week than it costs to take 5 people to 2 hockey games.  I was in tears most of the evening before dropping her off.  Even more so afterwards.  I miss my baby already.  She’s never been boarded for more than a weekend.  And this is the first night I’ve been in my house without her.  :(

So for the past 2 hours I’ve been trying to get my stuff together to leave for my trip tomorrow.  I’ve checked all the weather forecasts, done laundry, figured out how many clean pairs of underwear I’ll need (and then threw in a few more, just to be safe).

I’m trying to limit myself to 2 pairs of shoes.  Tennis shoes being the obvious first choice considering the 2 hockey games I’ll be going to.  No, I’m not one of those puckbunnies who gets all dolled up for a game in the hopes that hot hockey player speeding down the ice is suddenly going to look up (way up in this case) and spot me and fall in love and want to make babies.

So anyway, the 2nd pair of shoes is causing problems.  I’d normally bring a brown or black pair.  Then make sure most of my clothes matched with that.  The problem is, of the 100 or so pairs of shoes I have (I’m a freak, I know), I don’t have any comfy cute black sandals or the like.  I need versatile.  Practical.  But still able to be dressed up a little.  I have some brown ones that would work, but because it might get chilly there (and most of my shirts are summery by now) I wanted to bring a light sweater or cardigan or something.  And of course, I only have black ones that fit the bill.

So do I bring the less than practical clunky black sandals and have black sweater, belt, etc to match?  Or do I bring the brown ones and clash?  Black and brown can go together, right?

Sometimes I’m such a girl it makes me sick.

Today’s the day.

Since it’s after midnight and all, technically, Dr Honeydew arrives later tonight.  I’m relieved in a way.  Too much time leading up to it.  And personally, I’m sick and tired of reading my blog entries lately. Could I possibly sound any flakier and mental??  lol

I should really be asleep.  Loooong day at work tomorrow, rush home, pick up clothes from the cleaners, last mad dash at cleaning the house, shower, change, and try to relax for a bit before I have to head to the airport.  I haven’t been in DFW in years.  And the drive over there at night will be no fun.  I just hope I don’t end up wandering around the wrong terminal looking for him or anything like that.  Thank goodness for cell phones I guess.

I’m really going to try to blog as I can during the visit.  Just because it might be more fun to go back and read my reactions as they took place rather than a rambling summary after he leaves Tuesday.

I head to San Diego next Thursday for a much-needed week-long vacation…and my first two Stars road games ever.  Wheeeee!

Potpourri

That word is just so lame.  I feel funny just saying it.  But that’s what this entry is going to be:  A combination of incongruous things.

Work is still crazy busy and making me feel utterly defeated because I haven’t been able to swoop in and save the day by working ridiculous hours to knock things out and get caught up.  I’ve done the ridiculous hours, but the catching up part has been elusive.  I’ve got all of these balls up in the air, so it came as no surprise when a few of them started falling today.  Luckily, new boss seems to be aware (thanks in part to old boss, I’m certain) of the fact that I’ve been managing way more than a full workload for some time now.  And has put things in motion to, hopefully, get me some relief soon.

My trip to San Diego is coming up at the end of March (after Dr Honeydew’s visit, of course).  This will be the first real vacation I’ve had since 2000 when Badass and I went to Mexico.  That’s just sad.  I am finally eligible for some of the perks that come with having a pilot for a brother and have yet to be able to take advantage of them.  Finally, I grew a spine and said enough is enough.  I am taking ONE WHOLE WEEK off from work.  Deal with it.

The U.S. Mens’ Olympic hockey started today.  It was on during the day, so of course I missed it.  Sadder than that, I completely forgot it was happening today.  And the most disheartening of all….our beloved team, filled to the brim with professional NHL players, TIED.  With Latvia.  Who the fook is that?  And why didn’t we skate circles around them?!   Oh well…maybe we just got off to a slow start and will start kicking ass now.

I am completely annoyed by the fact that the V-day gift I sent to Dr Honeydew has still not been received.  The ridiculous part is that, his real  gift was a preorder item that wasn’t scheduled to ship out until 2/14.  And since I didn’t want him to not get ANYTHING from me on the actual day, I sent him a little something else, along with a card, so that he’d atleast know I had thought of him.  I didn’t get it mailed as early as I planned, but still.  He should’ve had it by today.  I checked the status of the preorder item and it is scheduled to be delivered tomorrow.  The item I mailed Monday is not even showing up in the damn USPS tracking yet.  WTF?!

I did my taxes last weekend.  That was a pleasant surprise.  I had only been in my house for 3 months in 2004, so I didn’t get much benefit from the mortgage interest deduction.  This year, however, I’m getting more than double back over last year’s refund.  Woohooo!  Now the problem is figuring out what to do with it.  Put it towards another car?  Buy that much wanted new furniture?  Put it towards my credit card bill?  Buy that new digital SLR I’ve been eyeballing?  Put it in savings for emergencies?  I know I’ll keep some of it as spending money for my trip to California.  But I’d really like to do something useful with the rest.  With it alone, I can’t completely pay for new furniture or buy another car or pay off my debt.  But it would be a decent chunk towards any of those.  Putting it towards my debt, while probably smart, wouldn’t be very satisfying.  I’ll probably just hold onto it for awhile until I can decide.  I just don’t want to end up spending little bits and pieces here and there on random crap.

Pheh.  It’s late.  I should try to get some sleep I suppose.  There just aren’t enough hours in the day anymore.

Oh…and P.S.  Could my dog possibly stop shedding?!  Damn.  I just vaccuumed and there is already hair all over the place again.  Stupid weather needs to make up its mind.

That Ditsy Chick is at it again!

Yep.  Another tag.   And holy crap, is it long!!!  So I’d better get started…ok, let’s see.

4 Jobs I Have Had

  1. Catering – From junior high until early college, I did VIP catering at the local university.  Started out working concession stands with our church group, but ended up playing endentured servant at dinner parties held at the University President’s and Chancelor’s homes.  The Chancelor’s wife made us get those damned french maid uniforms (not the porn version, thankfully) for events at her house.  The first time we wore them, I was standing at the door greeting her guests with a tray of champagne.  And she had the nerve to comment about how “cute they look in their uniforms.”  I’ve never wanted to bash someone in the face with a silverplated tray more in my life.
  2. Office Manager at Rentronics – I met the manager in a pool hall while I was in college.  He was looking for a new office manager, I was looking for a part-time job.  I didn’t have to try and sell that crap to customers, just manage the paperwork and computer stuff.  He got fired several months later and the new manager (who apparently was a former manager) was forcing me to do sales so he could bring back his former office person.  Yeah.  I’m going to talk people into spending $10,000 over a few years on a used television.  I think NOT.
  3. Crap Jewelry Store Manager – After Mission Jewelers shut down, the manager brought me over to manage a new little costume jewelry kiosk in the mall.  That was fun, until his drinking problem surfaced and I was being called at midnight to meet him at bars for “business meetings.”  The kiosk pretty much fell apart not long after, but he gave me the best damn reference that essentially guaranteed my getting my current job, which I started right after college.  Sort of.
  4. CG & Camera Operator for TV station – I wanted to do television production when I first started college.  Really, I wanted to film, but a scholarship to the local school kind of changed my mind for me.  So when I had an chance to get my foot in the door at a local news channel, I grabbed it.  After working the news for a few months, I decided that I would never ever be able to do that for a career.

4 Movies I Could (and Do) Watch Over and Over Again

  1. Tombstone – Val Kilmer as Doc never gets old.
  2. Pretty in Pink – Jon Cryer as Duckie…I had the biggest crush on him after seeing this movie the first time.  He was my ideal man…when I was 12-18.  He could ride his bike past my house any time!
  3. The Princess Bride – Just a fun (and also very quotable) movie.
  4. Any Marilyn Monroe movie – some of my very favs are Some Like it Hot, River of No Return, and Gentleman Prefer Blondes

4 Places I Have Lived – I haven’t moved around much actually.  But here’s what I can come up with.

  1. Memphis, TN – don’t remember it, but I lived there for the first 11 months of my life
  2. Beaumont – with my parents and later in a trailer that was essentially in their backyard.
  3. DFW area – in a townhome
  4. DFW area – in my very own first home!

4 TV Shows I Love – I don’t watch a lot of tv.  But I do watch a lot of tv shows on dvd after the seasons end.  I’m impatient and forgetful and can never remember the schedules.  So I just watch them all on dvd in a night or two.  Most of them aren’t even being made anymore.  :(

  1. Queer as Folk – I’ve only seen the first two seasons so far (I think the show ended after 5 seasons) but I absolutely love it.
  2. Six Feet Under – Another one I started watching after the show ended.  I’ve watched through the 4th season.  Very dark but also very human and touching.
  3. Carnivale – I still can’t believe those jerks at HBO cancelled this after only two seasons.
  4. Most anything on HGTV – I love Designed to Sell, House Hunters, Landscaper’s Challenge, Decorator’s Challenge, Curb Appeal, etc.

4 Favorite Books – I read a lot, but in spurts.  I may go months and months without touching a book.  Then, the mood strikes and I’ll knock out 3 or 4 within a few weeks.  I can’t think of any individual favorites…hmmm…

  1. The Mayfair Witches Series by Anne Rice
  2. The Harry Potter books
  3. Most anything by Stephen King or Dean Koontz
  4. Dr. Seuss books – I think all of life’s lessons can be learned from these
  5. BONUS:  The Stinky Cheese Man and Other Fairly Stupid Tales

4 Places I Have Vacationed – I haven’t vacationed much, aside from the trips with the family growing up.  But here’s a few.  In a few months, I’ll get to add San Diego to the list!

  1. Memphis – Growing up, this was about the only place we ever got to visit.  It wasn’t until I was much older that we actually got to go out and see some of the city:  Beale Street (which is very cool), The Peabody Hotel, Graceland, etc.
  2. Seattle – Oldest brother, Dilbert, used to live there.  Got to go there a few times.  Pike’s Place Market was fun.  And of course, my beloved Fluevog store was there as well.
  3. France – My youngest brother, Duckie, and I got to go for 2 weeks the summer after my high school graduation.  I’d love to go back someday.
  4. Puerto Vallarta – Badass and I went for a week back in 2000.  Would like to go again someday as well, but with better company.

4 Websites I Read Every Day – Sadly, my job doesn’t allow me much time for daily visits anywhere these days.  But here’s the ones I try to hit as much as possible.

  1. My Blogroll Buddies
  2. Dallas Stars sites
  3. Yahoo 360 – similar to MySpace but cooler, unless you want the whole music scene
